More silverware slipped out of reachPortuguese star cut a frustrated figureChange in the dugout now being mootedGetty ImagesWHAT HAPPENED?
Serious questions are being asked of the man in the dugout following a second-half capitulation against Al-Hilal. Ronaldo had put Al-Nassr in front as they sought to land major silverware at the start of the 2024-25 campaign, but the Portuguese ended up on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline.

All four of those goals were scored in a stunning 17-minute passage of play, with Ronaldo clearly frustrated with the effort, or lack of, being put in by those around him. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was caught on camera making lewd gestures to his colleagues.
GettyWHAT CASTRO'S AGENT SAID
It is now being claimed that head coach Castro, who took charge of Al-Nassr in July 2023, could be relieved of his duties. His representative, Antonio Teixeira, has told as speculation rages: “We were not informed of anything about not continuing. Castro has a passion to achieve championships with the team during the new season, and he was not successful in the Super Cup, but I do not know anything about the others and whether they want to achieve championships or not.”

Sporting director Edu and the Arsenal board are ready to green-light three senior players' exits this summer in an effort to fund the major signing of a £100 million star.
Arsenal draw up plans to sign striker, midfielder and winger
The north Londoners are preparing for what will be another crucial summer window, regardless of whether or not they pip Man City to the Premier League title.
Clubs fear £51m striker is certain to join Arteta with Arsenal impressed
The Gunners also think he’s affordable.
ByEmilio Galantini May 2, 2024
Arsenal have scored more goals and conceded the fewest of any other side in the top flight, but City are usually near-unstoppable at this point of the season and currently hold all the cards with a game in hand on Mikel Arteta's side – who currently top the league by one point.
Following what has been an excellent campaign in terms of form, it will be a real disappointment if Arsenal miss out on the title again after also coming close last season. However, if that is to be the case, Edu and co will soon have an opportunity to shore up the squad and come back stronger next campaign.
The Brazilian and Arsenal chiefs are thought to be eyeing a new striker, midfielder and potentially another winger – according to reliable journalist Charles Watts.
"It's no great secret that Arsenal want to sign a striker this summer. When the window opens it will be the priority, along with a midfielder and potentially another wide attacker," Watts said to CaughtOffside recently.

"It will be interesting to see whether they move for Victor Osimhen. He, like Toney, is a player they like and I know that his representatives have visited Arsenal's training ground for talks with Edu. Those talks took place in the summer when Arsenal eventually signed Gabriel Jesus. Jesus was always the priority that year, but Osimhen was definitely a player they viewed as a serious alternative.
"That interest will remain, but the Nigerian could prove to be too costly an option in a summer given Arsenal want to spread their budget around as they look to take the squad to the next level."
In terms of the midfield players attracting Arsenal interest, one big name who's been repeatedly linked is Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes.
The Magpies midfielder has continued to star under Eddie Howe this season, leading to big clubs targeting a summer move for him, but sides will have a limited time to pay the £100 million release clause in his contract – which is only valid from the last week of May to the beginning of the last week of June (Fabrizio Romano).
Arsenal are considering a summer bid for Guimaraes alongside Man City, and a new report has shed light on how they plan to move for him.
Edu ready to sanction triple Arsenal exit to afford Guimaraes deal
According to Football Insider, Arsenal are ready to offload Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah to fund a move for Guimaraes this summer – as all three don't feature in Arteta's long-term plans.
All three are also homegrown and will count as pure profit, as Arsenal look to try and afford a move for Guimaraes without sailing too close to the wind in terms of potentially breaching Profit and Sustainability rules.
It's added that the Gunners face a race against time to raise the funds needed to sign the £160,000-per-week Guimaraes, due to his release clause only being valid until the end of next month.
USMNT star Tim Weah endured a mixed start to the 2024-25 campaign, with an incredible goal for Juventus countered by an unfortunate injury setback.

Crashed goal in off underside of the crossbar
Helped Bianconeri to three points against Como
Facing another untimely stint on the sidelines
WHAT HAPPENED?
The United States international was on target as the Bianconeri enjoyed a dream opening to the new Serie A season. Weah doubled Juve’s lead on the stroke of half-time in their comfortable 3-0 victory over Como. His strike was crashed in off the underside of the crossbar, with the ball deemed to have crossed the line.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Weah is looking to build on a debut campaign in Turin that saw him handed just 12 Serie A starts, with fitness problems holding him back at times. He had been hoping to enjoy a regular role this term, but familiar issues have resurfaced when it comes to putting himself in contention for selection.

WHAT JUVENTUS SAID
Weah was replaced against Como, alongside midfielder Khephren Thuram, and is now set for a spell on the sidelines. Juve have said in an update delivered on the club’s : “Following muscular problems suffered during last night's match, Khephren Thuram and Timothy Weah underwent diagnostic tests this morning at the J|Medical, which revealed for the former a low-grade hamstring injury in his left thigh and for the latter a low-grade hamstring injury in his right thigh. New examinations are scheduled for both players in approximately 10 days' time.”

Juve will be back in action when facing Verona on August 26. A home date with Roma on September 1 will carry them into the first international break of 2024-25, with it yet to be determined whether Weah will figure in either of those fixtures or in plans for his country as the USMNT prepare for friendly dates with Canada and New Zealand.
Everton sealed their survival for another season in the Premier League as they secured all three points with a 1-0 win over Brentford at Goodison Park on Saturday.
The Toffees are now 11 points clear of the relegation zone with three matches to play, which means that they will be in the top-flight once again next term.
Sean Dyche's side have won four of their last five games in the Premier League to go clear of the bottom three, which leaves Nottingham Forest, Luton Town, and Burnley battling it out to avoid going down.
The club can now turn their attention to the summer transfer window as they potentially look to improve the squad to ensure that next season is not as much of a struggle at the bottom end of the table.
Dyche and his team could look at signings to make an immediate impact in the first-team next term, but they could also bring in talented young players with a view to them being future stars.
Everton's interest in Celtic's teen starlet
Back in March, TEAMtalk journalist Harry Watkinson reported that Everton are one of a number of teams eyeing up Celtic teenager Rocco Vata ahead of the summer transfer window.
His contract with the Scottish giants expires next month and the Toffees are keeping close tabs on his situation ahead of a possible swoop for his services.
Italian side Lazio reportedly made a move for him earlier this month as they look to steal a march on their rivals to get a deal done for the talented youngster.
In March, The Athletic reported that Celtic have offered Vata a new contract to remain with the Premiership outfit, which would extend his current deal through to 2027.
Rocco Vata and Daniel Kelly
However, it was added that the forward has found first-team opportunities hard to come by under Brendan Rodgers, which has opened the door to a potential exit.
The Athletic named Watford, who would have to pay a fee of around £239k in compensation to sign him, Como, Bolonga, and Sampdoria among the clubs interested in a deal for the 19-year-old starlet.
Vata has been at Celtic since the age of seven and they would be due compensation from any team signing him on a 'free' transfer this summer, as they have attempted to tie him down to an extension after developing him through their youth system.
Whilst the teenage whiz may not be ready to hit the ground running in the Premier League, Dyche could sign him a dream successor to Abdoulaye Doucoure in the second striker role behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Abdoulaye Doucoure's Premier League season in numbers
The Mali international has operated as the attacking midfielder, or second striker, behind the starting centre-forward in the top-flight for the Toffees this season, with the likes of Idrissa Gueye, Amadou Onana, and James Garner lining up behind him in a midfield two.
Doucoure went viral over the weekend for an Instagram post with the caption 'Talent 10%. Mental 90%. Never give up.', with talkSPORT reporting that some fans took it to mean he was joking about only having 10% of talent, rather than the likely intended message of the importance of having a strong mentality.
The 31-year-old dynamo has been a regular starter for the Toffees throughout the season, starting all 29 of his league appearances, which speaks to how much Dyche trusts him to do a job on the pitch.

As you can see in the table above, Doucoure has chipped in with moments of quality in the final third to secure points for Everton, with eight direct goal contributions in 29 matches.
However, the experienced gem has also underperformed his xG by one goal and this suggests that there is room for the Toffees, or Doucoure himself, to improve in that area.
The attacking midfielder has also struggled with the physical side of the game throughout the 2023/24 campaign, with a duel success rate of 36% in the Premier League.
His current contract with Everton is due to expire in the summer of 2025, when he will be 32, and Vata could be brought in with a view to him being the long-term successor to the former Watford man.
Why Everton should sign Rocco Vata
Per Transfermarkt, the teenage whiz's main position is as a second striker, which makes him the ideal heir to Doucoure's role behind Calvert-Lewin.
The 5 foot 9 attacker has only made six first-team appearances for Celtic thus far, scoring one goal, but his form at youth level for club and country illustrates his big potential.
During the last international break, Vata showcased his goalscoring potential for Republic of Ireland at U21 level with a hat-trick against San Marino.

As you can see in the table above, the Hoops teen was busy throughout the game, with goals, dribbles, one key pass, and duels won to make himself a constant threat to the opposition.
Vata, who talent scout Jacek Kulig once claimed has an "exciting" future ahead, has also been in exceptional form for Celtic's B team this season with a return of 12 goals in 15 Lowland League matches, and one goal in one Challenge Cup outing.
The 19-year-old marksman has plundered 21 goals and one assist in 31 Lowland League games since the start of last season, which is a return of one goal every 1.48 outings on average.
Rocco Vata
He also created two 'big chances' in just 44 minutes of action across four Premiership appearances for Ange Postecoglou at first-team level for Celtic last season, which speaks to his creative potential in a second striker or attacking midfield role.
These statistics illustrate Vata's quality as both a scorer and a creator of goals, with glimpses of his ability in the senior team as well as in the academy, and that is why Dyche should swoop to land him when his Hoops contract expires this summer.
The Irish youngster could turn out to be the dream successor to Doucoure in the second striker position behind Calvert-Lewin if he can translate his goalscoring exploits over to English football with more experience and development over the years to come.
Aston Villa have managed to move ahead of both Arsenal and Manchester City for one of their transfer targets, it has been reported, after Unai Emery and NSWE opted to match the £25m asking price for an exciting young defender.
Villa planning for Champions League despite recent stumble
Aston Villa have enjoyed a fantastic campaign to date, and it will be considered a success no matter what happens in the final days of the season. However, Emery's side are just beginning to tail off in the Premier League, and face their toughest games to date in the coming weeks as they take on high-flying Ligue 1 outfit LOSC Lille in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Conference League.
With just one win in their last five Premier League games, the Midlands outfit have dropped below Tottenham and into fifth, while Ange Postecoglou's side have a game in hand to stretch that gap further in the final run in.
Fortunately, Champions League football is all but secured for next season, with Manchester United a massive 11 points behind Villa. Even with a game in hand, the gap looks too big to bridge for a side in similarly ropey form, and fifth spot should get the job done with England set to win the UEFA coefficient race.

ByBen Browning Apr 6, 2024
With seven players currently out injured, it is clear that Emery's squad will need bolstering for the new season, especially should they wish to perform in the newly-structured Champions League alongside the Premier League, which will see players forced to play even more games than this time around.
Emery and Villa already appear to be planning for that eventuality and will be keen to do their business early. To that end, they may have just landed their first deal.
Kadioglu Villa bound after fee agreed this week
That comes in the shape of rampaging full-back Ferdi Kadioglu, who Villa are now reportedly in the driving seat for and have even agreed a deal to take him to the Midlands. The Fenerbahçe star was subject to interest from both Arsenal and Manchester City in recent transfer windows, but ultimately has stayed in Turkey.
Now, that seems set to change. As per a report from Turkish outlet Aksam, Kadioglu has already "said goodbye" to Fenerbahce ahead of move to Aston Villa, which has come about largely because Unai Emery's "insistence" to sign the player.

They add that the transfer is "expected to become official in the summer", with Villa having agreed to pay the 30m euros "requested by Fenerbahce", a sum which makes Kadioglu the joint-record sale in Super Lig history (alongside Sacha Boey's move to Bayern Munich in January).
Dubbed a "future superstar" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, Kadioglu has already gone about realising that potential. The 24-year-old can play on either side of defence and has missed just two minutes of action for Fenerbahce this season when fit, helping them challenge for the title in Turkey.
Ferdi Kadiolgu for Fenerbahce.
Currently earning £48,000 per week, he is likely set for a sizeable increase to that if and when he makes the move to the Midlands this summer, and could well see a change of position from his usual left-back berth under Emery, with Alex Moreno already a strong option on that side.
Spectators won’t be admitted to the matches in Sydney and Hobart while the T20I tour of New Zealand is now in doubt
ESPNcricinfo staff12-Mar-2020Concerns among Australia’s players about potential exposure to coronavirus in front of large crowds of spectators were a factor in Cricket Australia’s decision to play the one-day series against New Zealand behind closed doors, with the T20I matches at the end of the month in New Zealand are in doubt.A few hours previously it had been confirmed that the Australia Women’s tour of South Africa would not be taking place. The two ODIs in Sydney on Friday and Sunday and the final match in Hobart on March 20 will take place as scheduled but spectators won’t be admitted. The final round of Sheffield Shield matches which start on March 17 and the final from March 27-31 will currently take place as planned. After the New Zealand tour at the end of this month the next trip for Australia is the two-Test tour of Bangladesh in June followed by a tour to England in July. A significant number of Australian players are due to take part in the IPL which starts on March 29 that appears set to take place behind closed doors.Kevin Roberts, the CA chief executive, said on Friday that players has raised questions about the potential for exposure to the virus before the call was made to shut the gates at the SCG and Bellerive Oval over the next week.”The feeling from the men’s team was there was some apprehension based on the experience of Sunday night, partly, and the uncertainty of the situation and the developments around the world,” Roberts said in Melbourne. “Some apprehension around playing in front of large crowds over the next week. The safety of our players is paramount.”We’ve offered all our people the opportunity to work from places where they feel most safe, like most employers have around Australia and no doubt other parts of the world. And it was only right we afforded the same flexibility to our players and worked through that with them.”They’re comfortable to play the matches. They’re looking forward to taking on New Zealand this afternoon and they’re feeling safe by virtue of playing in unusual situation of empty stadia but the situation that enables them to go about their business on the field and inspire Australians with the bat and ball this afternoon.”All spectators who had previously bought tickets to the series – Roberts said CA had been expecting a small crowd for Friday’s first SCG match but a larger crowd of more than 20,000 for the second on Sunday – will be provided with refunds.Clouds over the SCG?•Getty Images”Everyone who’s bought a ticket for these matches will have the ability to receive a refund,” Roberts said. “And certainly we’re expecting good crowds, particularly on Sunday, well in excess of 20,000 on Sunday, else people there today being Friday but all those people will have the opportunity to receive a refund, which is the right thing to do.”We’re really using our best judgement based on the information that we have, to deal with these situations and I guess it’s rapidly unfolding and we just need to remain calm and take the information on board as we go.”Players have been briefed to change customary behaviour on the field, whether it be handshakes or embracing at the fall of a wicket, while the use of saliva to polish the ball has also been part of discussions about player health and safety.”We’re briefing players on changing some of the standard on-field behaviours such as not shaking hands. Obviously sharing the same sentiments that you feel when you do shake hands with someone to make sure players keep a bit of distance from each other,” Roberts said. “In playing the game today what’s happening is they’re inspiring a nation by getting out and playing on the field but they’re not putting themselves at risk.”We’re working through all elements of the experience that players have on the field and we’ll be briefing them accordingly. The briefing to players is going on. The discussions with players started yesterday. We advised of the decision that was made this morning and this is an ongoing communication with players, starting yesterday and leading up to the start of the match this afternoon.”As for the IPL, Roberts said that in a fast-moving environment, CA would give advice to players depending on how the broader situation developed, as was the case with the decisions around the men’s matches in Australia this week and the scheduled women’s tour of South Africa.”We’re taking this one day at a time and perhaps then one week at a time,” Roberts said. “We’ve made decisions on the situation as it relates to the next nine days ahead of us. We’ve all experienced in our work and general lives the last week a rapidly changing situation. What that tells us is it would be premature to make decisions now based on what’s happening in the coming months. But it’s not premature to make decisions for today and the next week. We’ll keep an eye on the situation.”Alex Kountouris, CA’s Sports Science and Sports Medicine Manager, said the actions taken were in keeping with advice received about the coronavirus pandemic. “These were not decisions taken lightly, but they are the most responsible courses of action based on expert advice,” Kountouris said. “The health and safety of everyone in the cricket family is paramount and our actions reflect that.”This is an unprecedented global health situation and, as we’ve seen around the world, serious measures have been taken by many organisations to limit the spread of coronavirus. We are among those. We will continue to monitor the situation and consult with relevant experts in relation to future matches and series.”

A Sky Sports pundit says one player in particular will be leaving Tottenham this summer, and it's "100%" from what he knows on the situation.
Postecoglou pleads for change with Tottenham set for long-term rebuild
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has grown more and more animated on the touchline over these last few weeks, and for good reason, as his side have been far below par and seem a shadow of their former selves who started the campaign so brightly.
Ange told to sell Bissouma and build Tottenham team around £90 million star
The player in question would set Tottenham back a hefty sum.
ByJosh Barker May 5, 2024
Some were even backing a potential Spurs title challenge at one point after Postecoglou made the best start of any new manager in Premier League history, but a combination of injuries and inconsistent form have set the Lilywhites back.
Now, barring a last-gasp collapse from Aston Villa, Tottenham appear set to miss out on fourth and Champions League football next term, with Postecoglou admitting that the north Londoners require a long-term rebuild and real change.
Liverpool 4-2 Tottenham
Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham
Tottenham 2-3 Arsenal
Newcastle United 4-0 Tottenham
Tottenham 3-1 Nottingham Forest
"We need change. Change has to happen," said Postecoglou on Tottenham needing to overhaul the squad.
"You can’t want to alter your course and expect the same people are going to be on that. It’s just not going to happen.
"We’ve had two windows and we’ve had some development of players, for sure, but when I say we’ve still got a long way to go, that’s what I’m talking about. It’s impossible to say you’re going to have drastic change and yet expect everyone to be on that journey. It’s not for the want of trying. It’s just that we’re going to play a certain way, we’re going to train a certain way and we’re going to have a certain mindset.
"And that’s not for everyone. Whether it’s Liverpool or Arsenal, if you look at the beginning of their journeys, by the time they win the competition or have success, the team’s almost unrecognisable. That’s the reality if you change [and we’ve] done a major pivot here, so that definitely is the case [for us], yeah."
To make room for key new additions, with Spurs plotting to upgrade a few key areas this summer, players will need to go the other way. One of them could well be defender Joe Rodon, who's enjoyed a fantastic loan spell at Leeds United this season.
Rodon will "100%" leave Tottenham this summer
Leeds are very keen to strike a permanent deal for Rodon. However, whether or not he signs on at Elland Road indefinitely, Sky pundit Paul Robinson has told Football Insider that Rodon will "100%" be leaving Tottenham this summer based on what he knows.
Leeds United's loan defender Joe Rodon.
“Joe Rodon… regardless of whether he stays at Leeds or goes elsewhere, he won’t be integrated back into the Spurs side, and will move this summer on a permanent deal, it’s 100% from what I know,” said Robinson.
The 26-year-old was signed by Jose Mourinho at Spurs in 2020 from Swansea City, and Ben Davies has called him a "terrific" player, but there appears to be little room for him in Postecoglou's rebuild.
Australia’s domestic first-class competition, the Sheffield Shield, is set to be cancelled before its conclusion due to coronavirus, the first such event since the Second World War.Cricket Australia officially announced the decision to cancel the final round of the regular season on Sunday morning. The players are understood to have been informed on Saturday night, before they travelled to venues. The final, scheduled to be hosted by New South Wales in Wollongong, is also set to be cancelled, although CA have said an update will be provided “in due course”.Concerns about the risk of contracting coronavirus while travelling by air is thought to be a part of the decision, with South Australia to host Queensland in Adelaide, Western Australia to host New South Wales in Perth and Victoria to host Tasmania in Melbourne. With nine of 10 rounds completed, NSW sit clearly atop the table, with Victoria second and then little separating Queensland, Tasmania and Western Australia. It is not yet clear whether NSW will be awarded the Shield as the top team, or no winner declared. The Shield has been contested every season since 1892, only stopped by the First World War from 1915 to 1919 and the Second World War from 1940 to 1946.”At times like this, cricket must take a back seat for the greater good,” the CA chief executive Kevin Roberts said. “We have been in consultation with relevant government agencies, our own medical team and an infectious-diseases expert for quite some time now, and we have taken all their advice into account in making these decisions.”In recent days, it has become evident that we must play our part in helping limit the spread of the virus by reducing person-to-person contact wherever possible. These measures reflect that.”The decisions made this week are not something we are accustomed to in cricket. But by making them, we hope we can contribute to the global effort to slow, and eventually stop, the spread of coronavirus.”After hosting an ODI between Australia and New Zealand at an empty SCG on Friday, CA was forced to cancel the remainder of the series due to the visiting team being called home, with the New Zealand government imposing emergency travel measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus. An Under-19s women’s tour of South Africa has also been cancelled, after the decision to abandon a senior women’s tour of the same nation, and the men’s team’s trip to New Zealand for Twenty20 matches.
