Roy Hodgson must unleash Crystal Palace ace Eberechi Eze against Fulham

After seeing both of his summer transfer targets disappear before his very eyes, Roy Hodgson must unleash Crystal Palace ace Eberechi Eze against Fulham.

What’s the word?

Recent reports had revealed that Hodgson’s side were targeting moves for Ismaila Sarr and Said Benrahma.

But the Brentford star joined West Ham instead, whilst Sarr ended up staying at Watford after the Hornets rejected a £25m bid from Palace for the 22-cap Senegal international.

Despite missing out on both their key targets, it may have a positive impact on one player who is already at the club.

Time to shine

Big things are expected from Eze after he arrived in the summer from Queens Park Rangers for a fee that could rise to £20m, becoming the club’s second arrival of the transfer window.

The highly-rated England U21 international – who is valued at £16m via Transfermarkt – made quite the impression at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium last season, as he started every game for Mark Warburton’s side in the English second division. scoring 14 goals and supplying 8 assists in the Championship, whilst he averaged 2.2 shots, 1.8 key passes and 3 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

Despite the fact the 22-year-old has already made four appearances in the Premier League so far, including twice featuring from the bench, it’s safe to say that he would have been looking nervously over his shoulder amid Palace’s interest in both players.

In the end the Eagles failed to sign an attacking midfielder, which is what Hodgson will have wanted all along, as it’s an open secret that Wilfried Zaha is angling for a move away from Selhurst Park.

Once lauded as a “fantastic” player by QPR chief executive Lee Hoos, this has paved the way for Eze to stake his claim in the starting XI.

If the speedster can cement his place in the side, Hodgson could start to build a dream attack that Palace fans have been craving for so long. He just needs to be guaranteed game time, which is no easy task.

Everton: Fans respond as Gabriel Magalhaes saga takes another twist

Everton summer target Gabriel Magalhaes has attracted even more attention after his agent reportedly met up with Manchester United.

According to RMC Sport reporter Mohamed Bouhafsi (relayed via @TheGwladysSt), four clubs are now in pursuit of the Brazilian. No concrete offers have been made from the Red Devils, but discussions are underway. United join Everton and Napoli plus another unnamed party in the long line of clubs looking to secure a deal.

Previous reports claimed that the Toffees had offered €30million (£27.1m) for Gabriel as they eye up options to bolster their defence ahead of next season. With a club like Man United seriously interested in striking a deal, Everton may fall to a side with stronger financial backing.

It seems fans are also aware of this and have taken to Twitter to express their frustrations. One Blue in particular has said that ‘[Marcel] Brands need sacking’ if the deal doesn’t go ahead, as Everton have been monitoring Gabriel for months.

Newcastle must sign Fiorentina star Federico Chiesa

Whilst the takeover hasn’t officially gone through yet, that hasn’t stopped talks of big-money transfers involving Newcastle.

And the latest man to be linked in recent days, is Fiorentina star Federico Chiesa.

According to Italian publication La Nazione (via Sport Witness), the Magpies have set their sights on the £43.2m-rated attacker, although they are set to face competition from fellow Premier League side Manchester United.

The report claims that whilst there’s no indication of how much Steve Bruce’s side would be willing to put on the table at this moment, the fact they may have considerable funds at their disposal in the near future may see them overtake other sides in the race to sign Chiesa.

Think you’re a big Magpies fan? Can you name these former players by looking at their careers? Go on, give it a go…

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

And if a deal can be struck for the 22-year-old, then Newcastle could have one of the most wide duos in the top-flight.

With Allan Saint-Maximin proving himself to be a superb acquisition from French side Nice last summer – he has four goals and seven assists – Newcastle already have one of the more devastating wingers in the division.

Adding Chiesa to the equation, who is comfortable playing on either side and even through the middle, could see the Magpies become a real force from out wide.

Former World Cup winner, Bruno Conti, waxed lyrical about the Italian’s abilities, saying: “He has all the quality to do well, because he is a genuine talent. Much like me, he can play on either flank depending on whether the Coach asks him to get to the by-line and cross or pull back inside and try for a shot. In order to do that, you need your basic technique to be flawless.

“That’s not even taking into account that Chiesa has a great eye for goal and is physically strong, which enables him to switch gears quickly from defence to attack.”

Unlike Saint-Maximin whose average of 4.6 dribbles per game ranks second in the Premier League, Chiesa is far more of a goal-scoring presence.

In Serie A this season, he has fired off 3.3 shots per game, whilst still maintaining averages of 1.3 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per match too. Having someone like Saint-Maximin to be more direct with his running and take players on, and then Chiesa on the opposite flank making driving runs into the box to finish seems like it has major potential to wreak havoc.

It’s a move that the Magpies could see major rewards from.

Liverpool: Fans in dreamland as James Pearce posts recent Steven Gerrard comments

For the first time in the club’s history, they will lift the Premier League trophy, and mark their first top flight win in 30 years. James Pearce has relayed some comments made by the former skipper and current Rangers manager, who thinks Jurgen Klopp deserves a statue outside Anfield for what he’s done with the club.

In his latest feature for The Athletic, the Liverpool reporter has shared an exclusive interview with Gerrard and his take on the Reds being crowned champions.

The players and fans alike watched Chelsea’s performance against Manchester City with bated breath, before a 2-1 win for the Blues mathematically secured Liverpool’s title. This huge victory is another trophy to add to Klopp’s ever-growing cabinet, already boasting the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Loads of fans are in total agreement that the German deserves a monument to celebrate his achievements with the club. One Kopite has said Gerrard is ‘spot on’ with his take, whilst another thinks it ‘might upset Evertonians’, who are undoubtedly pig-sick over their rivals’ success.

Leeds: Fans react to defensive stats reveal ahead of Luton clash

The Sky Bet Championship action returns this evening as Fulham host QPR as the second-tier gears up for the run-in towards the Christmas period.

The games are set to come thick and fast for sides in the second-tier now that the final international break of the calendar year is over and there are bound to be a few freak results along the way.

Leeds United will be hoping to avoid one this weekend, then, as they travel to an out-of-form Luton Town side that’s looking to stay away from the bottom three.

The Whites, on paper, should win this game but the Hatters are capable of causing an upset – particularly at home – with them beating Bristol City with ease there not too long ago.

Defensively, though, Leeds can have confidence in keeping Luton out, whilst the Hatters have issues of their own at the back:

And, this in mind, here is what some Leeds fans have said in response to this reveal:

Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino would get in ahead of Harry Kane, says Danny Murphy

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Danny Murphy has said on talkSPORT that Harry Kane would get into the Liverpool side ahead of Roberto Firmino.

What did he say?

Tottenham are struggling at the moment. They are currently 11 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in the Premier League table, and they recently suffered the ignominy of losing 7-2 at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The former Reds midfielder, along with talkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham, has suggested that failure to qualify for European football’s premier club competition may force the England captain to depart north London.

Were he to do so, the 42-year-old believes that he would replace Roberto Firmino in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI. He explained:

“I think Harry Kane would get in Liverpool’s team ahead of Firmino, because I think he’d score more goals. I love Firmino but he’s not Harry Kane.”

Not the best fit

There is certainly an argument to be made that Firmino could score more goals. His highest-scoring season in the Premier League is 15, which compared with the likes of Kane, Sergio Aguero and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, does not really come close.

Considering that he plays for a team that has scored 173 times across the last two full terms – 89 last season and 84 during the 2017/18 campaign – you would expect more than his return of 27.

However, as we all know, scoring goals is not his main remit as the number nine in this Liverpool outfit.

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane on the wings, both of whom are stellar goalscorers – along with Aubameyang, they shared the Golden Boot last term – he is expected to be more of a creator than a marksman. In the last two-and-a-bit seasons, he has 31 assists in all competitions. Kane, by comparison, has 12.

He does have 75 goals across the same time period, though, which is very impressive. But his goalscoring ability would perhaps come with a price. Last term, he averaged 3.6 shots per game in the Premier League, compared to the Brazil international’s 2.2. Mane and Salah are so influential to how Liverpool play, but with Kane up front, there is a strong possibility that their overall goal threat would be heavily reduced.

Considering his ability, the 26-year-old would not struggle to find a new club were he to depart the Lilywhites. A move to Merseyside, though, would potentially unbalance the whole Reds squad. And with his Transfermarkt value currently resting at £135m, it would be far too much of a gamble.

Tottenham fans don’t think Son Heung-Min should have been sent off

It is fair to say that Son Heung-Min had a distressing afternoon on Sunday. It had started well for the South Korea international, with him providing the assist for Dele Alli’s opener against Everton at Goodison Park. However, it soon took a turn for the worse towards the end of the second half. With less than 20 minutes left on the clock, the former Bayer Leverkusen man went in to tackle the Toffees’ Andre Gomes. The challenge looked innocuous enough, and he originally picked up a yellow card. However, it soon become apparent that the former Barcelona man had been very seriously injured, and Martin Atkinson changed the decision to a red.Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The forward was distraught with the consequences of his tackle. The Spurs fans, though, were adamant that he shouldn’t have been sent off even if it was a horrific and unfortunate injury.

They took to Twitter to share their thoughts, and you can see some comments from the social media platform below.

Everton fans comment on Kurt Zouma’s mazy run in European clash

Kurt Zouma spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Everton before returning to parent club Chelsea over the summer.

The Frenchman has been a regular for the Blues this season, making 17 appearances in all competitions, including the full 90 minutes against Ajax on Tuesday night.

Zouma was part of a defence that shipped four goals against the Dutch champions, who had two players sent off in what was an incredible game of football.

Wayne Rooney puts himself forward for the Everton job in the video below…

There was a standout moment for the 25-year-old at Stamford Bridge, though, when he decided to embark on a quite wonderful run before firing over the crossbar.

The final effort was not exactly fantastic, but it was excellent work from Zouma as he powered through the middle of the park.

A number of Everton fans took to social media to comment on the central defender’s rush of blood to the head, and a selection of the Twitter reaction is available to view below:
