Southampton have been monitoring the progress of loaned out rising star Mohamed Elyounoussi, who is making serious waves up in Scotland. The striker has been an important part of Neil Lennon’s squad this season, despite the rocky run of form so far.

The Saints loanee has scored four goals in his last four appearances for the Hoops, with the club’s only goal against AC Milan last month coming through him in a substitute appearance. Lennon has been playing heavily with his lineups this campaign, consistently alternating the attacking options he chooses to field. But given Elyounoussi’s prolific form, it’s clear that the manager must opt to keep him in the starting XI for the remainder of the season.

Southampton could lose Elyounoussi

This is bad news for Southampton though, who have been looking to pave a way for his return to the south coast.

“I am very happy for [Elyounoussi] that he scored and I am happy to see it,” Ralph Hasenhuttl said (via FourFourTwo). “And, definitely, the player has a chance to maybe come back in and to be a part of the team, maybe next year.”

With Danny Ings ruled out of action through a knee injury, it’ll be a huge worry as the Saints plan their future. The England international has been almost free of problems since he joined Southampton initially on loan in 2018. Out of fear something similar will happen again, Hasenhuttl will be scrambling for cover.

But it won’t be as easy as simply recalling Elyounoussi. The Norway international has commented that he is fully focused on Celtic for this season. Indeed, the striker has bagged seven goals and four assists in 16 appearances for the Hoops and is receiving regular game time under Lennon (via Transfermarkt).

Elyounoussi is contracted with the Premiership side until next summer and he will have a big decision to make regarding his future. His impact in Scotland has had a lot of professionals and pundits talking, with Ally McCoist in particular lauding his performance against Lille as “absolutely clinical”.

Given his influence in attack and the potential exit of Odsonne Edouard, Elyounoussi could be offered a permanent deal with Celtic. Hasenhuttl and the Saints must act fast if they want to tempt the Norwegian back to St Mary’s.

وأضاف: “أنا لا أختبئ أو ألجأ إلى عدم التحدث، أخرج وأقول إنني لم أكن جيدًا بما يكفي، أتحدث نيابة عن نفسي وليس عن الفريق”.

وواصل: “أنا مسؤول عن أدائي ولم يكن ذلك جيدًا بما يكفي، لست هنا لأتحدث عن الفريق، نحن نعلم أننا يمكن أن نكون أفضل، لكن بالنسبة لي أنا أيضًا بحاجة إلى أن أكون أفضل مما كنت عليه اليوم”.

وعندما سُئل عما إذا كان سولشاير مسؤول عن تلك الهزيمة، قال لوك شاو: “لا، كما قلت، أعتقد أننا بحاجة إلى النظر أولاً وقبل كل شيء في المرآة”.

وتساءل: “هل نفعل كل شيء بشكل صحيح ونستعد للمباريات؟ بالطبع لدينا التكتيكات وكيف يريد المدرب منا أن نلعب، لكنني أعتقد أنه في بعض الأحيان يكون من السهل جدًا اللعب ضدنا”.

وأوضح: “على سبيل المثال، انظروا إلى الهدف الأول، لا يمكن أن يكون هناك ثلاثة من لاعبي ليفربول يركضون بتلك الطريقة في الدقائق الخمس الأولى، نحن بحاجة إلى أن نكون أكثر إحكامًا، يجب أن نكون أفضل، ندرك ذلك”.

واستمر: “أعتقد أيضًا أنه ربما يمكننا القول إن هذه النتيجة كانت قادمة، أعتقد أنه في المباريات السابقة التي فزنا فيها لم نكن في أفضل حالاتنا ونعلم ذلك، شعرنا بذلك داخل غرفة الملابس”.

واختتم لوك شاو تصريحاته قائلًا: “اليوم نحن بحاجة إلى التفكير وعلينا المضي قدمًا بعد ذلك لأنه مؤلم”.

Brighton manage Graham Potter has given a measured update on the fitness of Steven Alzate, who is unlikely to start regularly when the Premier League returns.

As per The Argus, the midfielder had been due to undergo a minor groin operation when the season was halted in March, only for that plan to be put on hold after he showed symptoms of coronavirus and was further delayed due to the priorities of medical services lying elsewhere.

The Colombian is fit to feature against Arsenal on Saturday but Potter has told the Seagulls faithful not to expect him to be a fixed presence in the team sheet.

The 45-year-old told The Argus: “He is looking okay. We are having to manage him a little bit – just his load and manage him through this bit.

“He is probably not going to be able to play Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday, Wednesday or whatever it is. But we have to just take that into consideration and make sure he is able to play the time that he can and feel good but he is looking okay.”

In what has been a breakthrough season for Alzate at the Amex Stadium, he has featured in 19 Premier League games so far, starting 12. Having enjoyed a run of starts upon his introduction to the side in the autumn, he hasn’t featured from the kick-off since the defeat at Bournemouth in January. [via TransferMarkt]

The 21-year-old has been a wonderfully versatile option for Brighton, playing in no fewer than seven positions already this term, with his diversity of roles stretching from the right-back position he has occupied more times than any other to a brief substitute outing at centre-forward. That versatility, along with some decent yet unspectacular attributes, mark Alzate out as something of a Jack-of-all-trades, although there is one area where the Colombian stands out – his average of 1.8 successful dribbles per game is the highest of anyone in the Seagulls’ squad (as per WhoScored).

Alzate has been a frequent yet not constant presence in Potter’s first XI this season and that looks set to be the case for the remainder of the campaign, with the manager clearly taking the approach of bedding him in mildly during his first year at Premier League level.

Even if the 21-year-old isn’t in a position to start every game until the end of 2019/20, the variety of positions to which he can adapt should make him an excellent option to have on the bench.

وتابع: “لقد تحدثنا كلاعبين في غرفة الملابس عما حدث، كانت هناك آراء مختلفة، كما هو الحال في جميع أنحاء العالم حول نسبة تعمد راموس من عدمها، لكن في رأيي اعتقد أن سيرجيو ارتكب خطًا ضد محمد صلاح”.

وأضاف: “ربما لم يقصد راموس الأمر كما حدث، لكن عندما ترى سقوطهما معًا، أعتقد أنه بذل قصارى جهده ليكون ذلك مؤلمًا لمحمد صلاح”.

وأتم تصريحاته: “لم يكن ينوي القيام بذلك، ولكن عندما حدث ذلك كان بإمكانه تفادي إصابة محمد صلاح، لكنه استغل أقصى ما في الأمر لصالح فريقه”.

عقّب المهاجم البلجيكي روميلو لوكاكو، لاعب تشيلسي، على تألقه في مباراة اليوم أمام أستون فيلا في بطولة الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، مساء اليوم السبت.

According to a report in The Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are monitoring highly-rated Hearts left-back Aaron Hickey, which could send an interesting message to Eagles prospect Tyrick Mitchell.

What’s the word, then?

Well, The Daily Mail says that the south London outfit are tracking the 17-year-old but are yet to make a bid for the player whose contract at Tynecastle is due to expire in the summer of 2021.

However, the report adds that the Scottish Premiership strugglers could get a much-needed financial lifeline if they can agree a fee with potential suitors for the teenager now, with the current situation in the United Kingdom.

The Daily Mail say that while Palace are best placed to sign Hickey, Manchester City, Everton, Southampton and Celtic have also watched him in action.

Message to Tyrick Mitchell

Having impressed during 2019 pre-season and gained praise from Crystal Palace supporters on Twitter, it looked as though it could be a potential breakthrough campaign for the now 20-year-old when it came to potentially making his senior Eagles debut.

However, despite being included in the matchday 18 on two occasions in the Premier League this term, he is still yet to get on the pitch under the former England manager.

However, the club’s interest in a player three years his junior is certainly intriguing, given he has made 34 first-team appearances for Hearts and is therefore more experienced when it comes to senior football.

Palace’s keen interest in Hickey and potential addition of him would surely be to push van Aanholt for his spot, and you have to wonder where that would leave Mitchell.
