Houve duas mudanças no sistema defensivo do Corinthians do ano passado. Saíram o zagueiro Pablo e o lateral-esquerdo Guilherme Arana.

Confira abaixo a entrevista coletiva do goleiro Cássio nesta sexta-feira no CT Joaquim Grava.

Scotland and Ireland post warm-up wins

A round-up of the ICC World Cricket League Division One warm-up matches held on June 29

Scorecard
Paul Stirling’s century set up Ireland’s victory•Getty ImagesScotland’s batsmen tuned up for the ICC World Cricket League with a strong performance which set up a comfortable victory over Afghanistan. After being put in, Scotland’s openers set the pattern with a 56-run stand, which was followed by three more healthy partnerships. Each of the top five got starts, with No. 4 Richie Berrington top-scoring with 69. Though left-arm medium-pacer Khaliq Dad struck thrice late in the innings, Scotland finished with a hefty 283. Afghanistan’s chase was hampered by a steady loss of wickets, but they battled on to 145 for 4 with the help of captain Nawroz Mangal’s half-century. A couple of quick strikes, though, ended their chances and they hobbled their way to 218 all out.
Scorecard
Ireland showcased their dominance of the second tier of international cricket when a century from Paul Stirling helped them overhaul a stiff target against Canada with four overs to spare. Canada’s captain Ashish Bagai (84) and No. 3 Zubin Surkari (62) were involved in a 99-run third-wicket stand that was the centerpiece of their side’s batting. A late flourish from Sunil Dhaniram, who slammed three sixes and three fours, took them to a solid 259. Ireland’s chase stuttered early when opener Nigel Jones went cheaply but Stirling stitched together a couple of big partnerships for the next two wickets to shepherd them towards victory.
Scorecard
Kenya put aside the turmoil that has stalked their cricket over the past couple of weeks to post a five-wicket win over Netherlands in their warm-up match in Schiedam. Collins Obuya was their star performer, making a century after the top three perished for ducks during Kenya’s pursuit of 219. From 5 for 3 in the fourth over, Obuya and Alex Obanda revived Kenya with a patient partnership of 116 runs. Francis Otieno then assisted Obuya, the pair adding 88 to take Kenya to the brink of a win. Netherlands had earlier had a poor start as well, but recovered from 13 for 2 to reach a respectable 218. Their top-scorer was Peter Borren, who missed a century by four runs, while Bradley Kruger chipped in with a watchful 37 off 79 deliveries.

Newcastle contact PSG over Keylor Navas

An update has emerged on Newcastle United’s efforts to sign Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas in the January transfer window…

What’s the talk?

According to RMC Sport, the Magpies have made an enquiry over a deal to sign the Paris Saint-Germain and former Real Madrid shot-stopper.

The report claims that PSG have turned down the Tynesiders’ initial move for the veteran, but it remains to be seen whether or not they will come back with another approach.

Get it done

Eddie Howe must ensure that Newcastle go back in with another swoop for Navas in an attempt to change PSG’s mind this month. Whilst the Ligue 1 leaders may have turned down an opening enquiry, there are still two weeks left in the transfer window and time for the Magpies to turn PSG’s heads.

The 35-year-old has been forced to share goalkeeping duties with Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma this season, and the prospect of regular first-team football could be tempting for him. Newcastle could offer him the chance to come in and play every single match in the Premier League, whereas that may not be the case in Ligue 1 for PSG as he splits game-time with the 22-year-old.

Navas could be an excellent addition to the Magpies’ squad and improve the quality between the sticks for Howe’s side, as he has proven himself at the very top level over a number of years.

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino previously lauded the shot-stopper saying: “Navas once again showed all his qualities. He’s a top-level goalkeeper. He’s one of the best keepers in the world.”

Last year, the Argentine said of him: “We can say his actions show his quality. He just proves that he’s at the highest level in the world.

“I think we all saw him tonight. There are good and bad times in football. In a match, you have to know how to hold on. We were able to do that, with the help of our great goalkeeper, who made the difference.”

He has a career average WhoScored rating of 6.96, showing that he has remained consistently brilliant throughout his time with Levante, Real Madrid and PSG. Navas kept 56 clean sheets in 162 matches at the Bernabeu and has racked up 44 clean sheets in 97 games in France to date.

This shows that the 35-year-old is well able to perform for some of the biggest clubs in Europe, which suggests that he will easily adapt to playing in the Premier League. That is why Newcastle must change PSG’s stance on the goalkeeper and work hard to try and bring him in this month.

Rangers: Gio makes Torre enquiry

An update has emerged on Rangers’ transfer plans, regarding Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s efforts to bring a winger to Ibrox in January…

What’s the talk?

According to Spanish outlet Noticias de Gipuzkoa, the Gers have made an enquiry over a potential deal to sign Pablo Torre from Racing Santander.

The report claims that Real Madrid and Valencia are also keen on the youngster, who could be available for a fee of £2.1m (€2.5m).

Fans surely buzzing

Fans will, firstly, be buzzing with this update as it suggests that the club are working on procuring a deal for the young talent. They have already made an enquiry and it remains to be seen whether they will follow that up with a bid, but it does show that there is a serious degree of interest there.

The supporters would be delighted to see Torre in Glasgow as he is a talented teenager with experience in professional football whilst having the potential to improve further. He has already shown glimpses of quality for Racing, with seven goals and 11 assists to date at senior level, showing that he could come in and make an instant impact at Ibrox.

Torre, who has been called Racing’s “conductor”, could, therefore, be a player the fans take a shine to straight away as he is someone who can score and assist goals on a regular basis. He has shown, in Spain at least, that he can be a difference-maker in the final third and Gers fans would surely enjoy watching him work his magic at the top end of the pitch in the second half of the campaign.

At the age of 18, he is also still in the early stages of his career and the supporters would undeniably love to watch his development over the years. They would enjoy seeing him make progress on the pitch under van Bronckhorst, whilst scoring and creating goals in the Premiership to help Rangers win the league title.

Therefore, the Dutch head coach and Ross Wilson must now work hard to ensure that they can get a £2.1m deal over the line for Torre this month. Real and Valencia’s interest could complicate matters, but the Gers can offer him Europa League football and the potential of regular game time – if van Bronckhorst is willing to give it to him.

Dolphins terminate contracts of five seniors

Andrew Hall, Johann Louw, Alfonso Thomas, Pierre de Bruyn and Hylton Ackerman have been informed that they are no longer required by the Durban-based team

Firdose Moonda17-Feb-2010The Dolphins franchise has terminated the contracts of five senior players with immediate effect, with a view to developing younger players and unearthing local talent. Andrew Hall, Johann Louw, Alfonso Thomas, Pierre de Bruyn and Hylton Ackerman – whose contracts were to expire at the end of the season – have been informed that they are no longer required by the Durban-based team.”We need to develop younger players,” Jessie Chellan, the KwaZulu-Natal CEO said. “Everything was done in an amicable way and all the players understood why we were letting them go.” He said the franchise wanted to concentrate more resources on unearthing local talent that would form the squad’s base. Richard Pybus and Lance Klusener have also been roped in as additional coaches to work alongside Graham Ford.Ackerman believed the franchise did the “right thing”, given the unsuccessful season they have had. “In terms of moving forward, the franchise, literally, does not have the right personnel in terms of players,” he told Cricinfo. “If you look at the players, all of them do okay but there are no match-winning performers.”Ackerman has not played for the Dolphins since November last year and he said he was “not surprised” to hear that they had no further use for him. “I’m not upset, but for someone like Johann, who has been successful, it’s not a nice thing to have happened. There was a general feeling that the franchise was shopping around too much and not bringing their own players in, so it’s a good thing that they are going to develop players.”Of the five players, Louw is the only one from the region. Ackerman is originally from the Cape, but spent time at the Lions and the Warriors. Hall is from Johannesburg as well but signed with the Dolphins on his return from the unofficial ICL. De Bruyn and Thomas were part of the Titans.Despite the amicable settlement, Tony Irish, CEO of the South African Cricketer’s Association (SACA) said his organisation would be looking into the matter. “We don’t believe that what happened was right for the players,” said Irish. “All of them are technically out of a job from today.” Chellan confirmed that Irish had began discussions with him but said that only one player had an issue regarding the termination of his contract. All five players – who will be paid the amounts outstanding on their contracts – appear to have plans in place for the future. Ackerman was due to retire at the end of the season and will be doing television commentary, while Thomas and Hall both have County contracts. Louw will be playing for the Cape Cobras. The Dolphins have had a poor season and are winless in the Standard Bank Pro20, with one match to go. They did make it to the MTN40 final, after a surprise victory over the Titans and they lie second from the bottom in the SuperSport Series. They have named an inexperienced side, with four franchise debutants, to take on the Lions in a Pro20 match on Friday. The new faces are Cameron Delport, Vyash Gobind, Ruan Pietersen and Khaya Zondo, all of whom hail from Natal and have been playing in the amateur divison.

Pressure builds on Gayle's men

At the start of the series Chris Gayle tipped a 4-1 win for West Indies, but given their predicament he would probably settle for 1-4

Calling the tourists out-classed in the opening exchanges is being polite to guests and if they lose in Sydney on Friday the five-game contest will be decided with two matches spare. After West Indies’ fight in the Test series earlier in the season, the follow-up campaign has been hugely disappointing, although Gayle hasn’t been helped by a batch of injuries which kept many of his best men at home. Batting has been the most serious problem, with the tourists managing 143 on the way to a 113-run loss in Melbourne, and 170 in Adelaide after being 4 for 16. The second game, which was watched by only 8378 spectators, was finished in the 27th over of the chase.Australia have been outstanding throughout the limited-overs segment of the summer and are on a 10-match winning streak. West Indies LLLLL
Watch out for…Everything for West Indies currently revolves around Chris Gayle. The match in Adelaide was basically over after Gayle’s first-ball departure and he must find a way to escape from the restrictions Australia have placed on him. Over the past week Gayle has remained cheery and upbeat in public but in his private moments he must feel like a one-man band. He is so important that at the moment the scenario is Gayle out, game over.Ricky Ponting has run into some good form with scores of 55, 49 and 57 not out in his past three games, but will be wanting more. With his developing team doing incredibly well, he can relax at the crease, which isn’t a good thing for the opposition bowlers. He pulled Kemar Roach in Adelaide, showing he is not haunted by the fast man’s short balls which got him in the Perth Test, and will look to sign off with a century to seal the series.Team news The wicketkeeper Tim Paine and Adam Voges come into the squad for Shane Watson and Brad Haddin, who are resting. Paine has opened in 14 of his 15 ODIs and will slot in with Shaun Marsh at the top. Postecoglou must unleash Johnston today

While Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side overcame a rather large hurdle in the Premiership title race on Thursday evening, securing a 1-0 win over third-placed Hearts, the victory came at quite a significant cost for the 56-year-old manager and his side.

Indeed, Jota, Stephen Welsh and Anthony Ralston all had to be substituted due to injury, while Carl Stafelt also appeared to finish the fixture with a knock to his knee.

As such, it looks as if Celtic will travel to Dundee United today with something of a depleted squad. However, speaking after the Hearts game, Postecoglou suggested that the injuries picked up by a number of his regular starters will, in turn, provide an opportunity for those who are yet to get many games under their belt this term.

The 56-year-old said: “We saw on Thursday night that Adam Montgomery had to come on and he has not played for four or five weeks. We still have a fair chunk of important games coming up after [Real] Betis so it makes sense to get some minutes into some of the other guys so that when we call on them they will have played in this period.

“James McCarthy, Mikey Johnston, Liel Abada and Nir Bitton all come into that category. There is an opportunity to get some minutes into their legs and have them ready when required.”

Postecoglou must unleash Johnston

One of the players Postecoglou mentions above, Mikey Johnston, would appear to be in more need than most for regular first-team minutes, as, since his return from injury earlier this season, the 22-year-old has started just once for the Hoops.

Indeed, the winger has endured a frustrating last couple of years at Celtic, with the £900k-rated man featuring in just 10 fixtures last season due to injury, as well as missing a large portion of the start of the current campaign with a knock.

However, the former Scotland U21 international has proven that, when he is fully fit, he can be an extremely useful player in the Bhoys’ attack, scoring six goals and registering six assists over 22 appearances back in 2019/20, as well as bagging five goals and one assist over 23 appearances in 2018/19.

Furthermore, Celtic captain Callum McGregor is quite clearly convinced of the £7.9k-per-week forward’s ability, with the 28-year-old midfielder stating: “He’s such a brilliant talent, bags of ability, bags of potential and he’s one as well that the manager’s asking a lot of him physically.

“He’s responding really well and the guys are doing some great work with him in the physio department and sports science to really get him to a level where he can go and make that impact. Against Hibs, I thought he was sensational.”

As such, with it being clear that Postecoglou simply must begin rotating his side more frequently if he is to avoid a catastrophic injury crisis at Parkhead, the 56-year-old must unleash Johnston against Dundee United this afternoon, as the winger could well prove to play pivotal in Celtic’s Premiership push this season – if given the chance.
