Tottenham: Conte axe strikes fear in ‘top class’ player

Tottenham Hotspur’s Sergio Reguilon now fears the axe by manager Antonio Conte as Barcelona eye a surprise move to sign the former Real Madrid talent, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Conte overhaul looming?

The Spurs head coach is reportedly plotting a major summer overhaul with as many as six major signings on his mind (The Telegraph).

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Conte wishes to add a reserve goalkeeper, right-wing-back, central defender, two midfielders and a new forward to his ranks as he prepares for a first full 2022/2023 season in charge at the Premier League club.

Several Lilywhites players have been tipped to make way as transfer chief Fabio Paratici is tasked with balancing the books and ensuring Conte’s transfer market wishes are fulfilled.

Now, sharing an update on who could leave north London, chief football writer John Cross of The Daily Mirror has an update for supporters.

The Latest: Cross makes Reguilon claim…

According to his sources, La Liga giants Barca are eyeing a ‘sensational’ move to sign former Real Madrid academy ace Reguilon from Spurs.

As well as this, the 25-year-old ‘fears he is not part of Conte’s long-term plans’ as he grows fearful of the Italian’s possible axe.

It is thought that Reguilon ‘could be surplus to requirements’ and it looks ‘increasingly likely he will leave’.

The Verdict: Let him go?

Depending on whether Madrid activate their £27.5 million buy-back clause for the defender or if it is Barca who end up swooping in, letting Reguilon depart should be considered by Paratici and Conte.

Ryan Sessegnon has been shining in the left-wing-back role when deployed and the Spaniard’s exit could help to balance Spurs’ worrying homegrown quota issue.

The potential fee will also bolster Paratici’s transfer kitty to fund summer swoops and appeasing Conte’s wishes in the summer will be crucial in keeping him at the club.

Lauded as a ‘top-class’ player by former Spurs keeper Paul Robinson, a Reguilon sale may well be one to watch out for regardless of his quality at times.

Newcastle transfer news on de Vrij

Paddy Kenny has been left wowed by some Newcastle United transfer news that he has now heard on Stefan de Vrij.

The Lowdown: Newcastle boost

As per Football Insider, de Vrij has been told by Inter Milan that he can now leave for just £15m in the summer, £25m less than his previous £40m value.

A recruitment source told the outlet that the Netherlands international is yet to open talks over a new deal in Milan and that has cast his future into doubt ahead of the looming transfer window.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/newcastle-news-6/” title=”Newcastle news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The North East club are just one of a number of teams now targeting a move for him, with both Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa also in the mix for his signature.

The Latest: Kenny reacts

Speaking to Football Insider about that update, former Leeds United and Sheffield United goalkeeper Kenny has claimed that de Vrij would be an ‘incredible’ signing for the St. James’ Park faithful, and that snapping him up would be a ‘no brainer’:

“You are talking about a top-quality defender who has seen it all.

“Newcastle could do with some of that. Look at Kieran Trippier. I know he has only played a few games but his influence can’t be overstated.

“You are paying £15million for a defender of his quality, it’s an absolute no brainer for me.

“Other clubs will be interested but obviously Newcastle can blow their competition out of the water with wages.

“They can do that if they need to. Maybe de Vrij can be convinced by the project.

“He will have seen Newcastle’s rise under Eddie Howe and he might want to be a part of that.

“If he was available I would go all out to get him. He would be an incredible capture.”

The Verdict: Get it done

If a player of de Vrij’s quality is available for just £15m, the Tyneside outfit simply need to get the deal done.

As Kenny points out, the central defender has a lot of experience of playing at the highest level, and so would help raise the game of his other teammates.

Dubbed a ‘monster‘ by former Lazio defender Mauricio, the six-foot-two colossus loves to defend, and so would help shore up the backline to allow the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin to express themselves more further up the pitch.

Spurs: Paratici enters into Carmo talks

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal to bring David Carmo to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Portuguese publication A Bola (via Sport Witness), who claim that Fabio Paratici has now opened negotiations with SC Braga ahead of a move for the centre-back at the end of the season.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news!”]

The report goes on to state that Borussia Dortmund have also registered an interest in the 22-year-old, who is thought to be available for a figure of around £20m this summer – despite the defender possessing a €40m (£33.5m) release clause.

Spurs’ own Van Dijk

With it being reported that Paratici’s main target in the summer transfer window is the signing of a left-sided centre-back, it is easy to see why Spurs are being linked with a move for the left-footed Carmo.

Indeed, despite missing the majority of the current campaign with a broken ankle, over his ten Liga Portugal appearances following his return to action, the £9m-rated defender has highly impressed, helping his side keep four clean sheets, as well as making an average of one interception, 0.7 tackles, 3.4 clearances and winning 3.7 duels – at a success rate of 61% – per game.

These returns have seen the £3.4k-per-week talent average a SofaScore match rating of 7.01, ranking him as Carlos Carvalhal’s second-best defender and ninth-best player overall in the league.

However, it has not only been in domestic competition that Carmo has impressed, with the centre-back also shining over his five Europa League outings, helping Braga keep three clean sheets, in addition to making an average of 1.2 interceptions, 1.8 tackles, 6.2 clearances and winning 5.4 duels – at a success rate of 69% – per fixture.

These metrics saw the player who Sam McGuire claimed “looks the part” average a SofaScore match rating of 7.14, ranking him as Braga’s fourth-best performer in the competition – with the centre-back playing a key role in his club’s run to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Furthermore, following Virgil van Dijk’s season-ending injury back in October 2020, data analysts Twenty3 identified Carmo as the perfect replacement for the stricken 30-year-old, with the former Portugal U20 international best matching the Liverpool defender in aerial duels won, defensive duels won, long passes completed, forward passes completed, final third passes completed and fouls.

Indeed, Liverpool even reportedly made an offer for the 22-year-old the following January, however, with Ozan Kabak being a more attainable option, Jurgen Klopp’s side decided upon a move for the Turkish defender ahead of the Braga starlet.

As such, considering his undoubted ability, his reasonable asking price and his strong left foot, it would very much appear as if the defender would be a signing Conte would love to welcome to north London this summer – as well as being a talent who could well go on to become Tottenham’s own Van Dijk.

Wolves: Source shares Pedrinho claim

Wolves are believed to be interested in signing Shakhtar Donetsk winger Pedrinho, according to a report from Goal Brasil (via Sport Witness).

The lowdown: Career so far

The 24-year-old arrived in Europe in August 2020 upon signing for Portuguese giants Benfica from Corinthians.

Having made just 31 appearances for the Primeira Liga side, Pedrinho was on the move once more as Shakhtar paid £16.2million to sign the Brazilian – he has directly contributed to seven goals in just 19 outings for the Ukrainian side.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/all-the-latest-from-wolves-4/” title=”All the latest from Wolves!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Now, amidst the ongoing conflict in the nation, it appears that a summer move to the Midlands could be on the cards…

The latest: Wolves interested

As per Goal Brasil, translated by SW, the Molineux club are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Pedrinho.

The report claims that the Wanderers are confident that the discussions ‘should have a positive outcome’ in the upcoming transfer window.

It’s suggested that the move will be at the request of Wolves manager Bruno Lage as the Portuguese coach looks to add the forward hailed as a ‘diamond’ by journalist Zach Lowy to the ranks.

The verdict: Make it happen

Despite enduring a difficult career so far in Europe, Pedrinho possesses a host of impressive attacking attributes including key passes, set pieces and long shots (WhoScored).

As the future of Adama Traore at Molineux remains in doubt, Lage is wise to consider bolstering the options at his disposal and the 14-cap Brazil Under 23 starlet is a viable contender.

Capable of playing across the frontline, including as a centre-forward, the gifted Brazilian would be a superb addition to the Wolves squad at almost any price.

The end for Tosin: Chelsea ready £52m bid to sign “outstanding” titan

While they are still some way from being the finished article, Chelsea have built a squad full of incredible players over the last few years.

The likes of Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, Marc Cucurella, and probably even Enzo Fernández would be able to get into most Premier League teams.

However, at the same time, West Londoners also have more than a few players who are arguably holding them back, with Tosin Adarabioyo perhaps the most obvious example over the last few weeks.

The former Fulham star has been at the centre of more than a few dire defensive performances for Chelsea, so it’s not all that surprising to see reports linking them to someone who’d be a dream upgrade.

Chelsea target Tosin upgrade

While talk of a title race might be a tad premature for Chelsea this season, they are most certainly in a race for the Champions League place.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

With that in mind, it’s unsurprising to see them linked with a plethora of talented players ahead of the transfer window reopening next month.

For example, the Blues are among several Premier League sides who have shown real interest in RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and have also been linked with Juventus’ Kenan Yıldız.

However, while hugely talented, neither of those exciting wingers would help solve the West Londoners’ defensive problems, nor send Tosin packing, unlike Castello Lukeba.

Yes, according to a recent report from TEAMtalk, Chelsea have maintained their intense interest in the French centre-back.

In fact, the report goes further, revealing that the Blues are now ready to submit a bid of up to £52m for the player in the coming weeks.

Interestingly, while the 22-year-old has a release clause worth around €80million in his contract, which is £70m, the report claims that Leipzig may be willing to cash in on the player for that £52m fee in January.

However, it might not be all that straightforward, as the story also states that Bayern Munich are keen to make a mid-season move for the highly rated defender.

In all, it could be a costly and complicated transfer to get over the line, but given Lukeba’s ability and potential, one Chelsea should be pursuing, especially as he could send Tosin packing.

How Lukeba compares to Tosin

Now, when it comes to midfielders, forwards and wingers, it can be relatively straightforward to compare players, as more often than not, their goals and assists are going to be what matters most.

However, when it comes to defenders, and centre-backs in particular, it can be a little trickier, and as a result, you have to go into more detail, you have to take a look under the hood at their underlying numbers.

Unfortunately for Tosin, doing so demonstrates just how far ahead of him Lukeba is.

For example, according to FBref, the Frenchman comes out on top in the vast majority of relevant metrics, including, but not limited to, blocks, interceptions, and ball recoveries, all per 90.

In other words, as analyst-turned-scout Ben Mattinson puts it, the Frenchman is a “defensively exceptional” centre-back.

However, his advantages over Tosin extend to more than just his ability off the ball.

For example, the “outstanding” titan, per Mattinson, also comes out on top in metrics like progressive passes and carries, shot and goal-creating actions, key passes, successful take-ons and more, all per 90.

Essentially, the Leipzig star is someone who can snuff out an opposition attack and then, either through his carrying ability or range of passing, kickstart one for his own side.

Ultimately, from every conceivable angle, it’s clear that Lukeba would be a massive upgrade on Tosin and, therefore, Chelsea should do all they can to sign him in January.

Maresca has a bigger talent than George who's "the future of Chelsea"

Chelsea didn’t exactly quell any growing concerns with their League Cup game against Lincoln City on Tuesday night.

However, they got the all-important win, and while most starters flattered to deceive, there was one who did what he needed to do: Tyrique George.

The Cobham graduate scored the equaliser just after half-time and then provided the assist for the winner a few minutes later.

The young Englishman certainly deserves more chances in the first team off the back of that performance, but there is another academy gem coming through who could be an even bigger talent.

Chelsea's promising prospects

Chelsea have long been a powerhouse when it comes to producing exciting young talents, and George is just another example of that.

In The Pipeline

Football FanCast’s In the Pipeline series aims to uncover the very best youth players in world football.

Throughout his time with the various youth sides, the versatile attacker has amassed an impressive tally of 21 goals and 19 assists in 69 appearances.

On top of that, he has also scored four goals and provided six assists in 30 first-team games, including the one on Tuesday.

An even younger, yet nonetheless exciting prospect, currently plying his trade in Cobham, is Chizaram Ezenwata.

The 17-year-old has already scored four goals and provided one assist in just four appearances this season, and looks like one to watch.

However, there is another up-and-coming Cobham gem who might just be the most exciting of them all.

Chelsea's most exciting talent

So while there are plenty of potential future stars in Cobham, we reckon Shumaira Mheuka is the one who could be a real game-changer.

The 17-year-old prospect started his footballing journey with Brighton & Hove Albion’s academy, but made the move to West London in 2022.

Since then, he has been tearing apart opposition teams for fun and turning heads at both the club and international levels.

For example, in 55 appearances across U18s, U21s, and the UEFA Youth League squads, the Birmingham-born gem has scored 28 goals and provided six assists.

In other words, despite often playing with players far older than himself, the young prospect has managed to average a goal involvement every 1.61 over the last couple of years.

Moreover, he has really stepped it up this year, scoring seven goals in six youth games and making an appearance for the first team on Tuesday night.

His exploits aren’t limited to club football, either, as in 16 appearances for the England U19s, he has scored eight goals and provided three assists.

Numbers like this at such a young age go a long way in justifying talent scout Jacek Kulig’s claim that he is “the future of Chelsea and English football.”

Ultimately, there is still a long way to go before he’s starting and scoring for the first team, but in Mheuka, Chelsea look to have a potential world-beater on their hands.

Nottingham Forest star out with serious injury in "big" setback for Ange

Nottingham Forest are set to embark on a new era under Ange Postecoglou, though their newly-appointed boss has been dealt a serious injury blow at the City Ground.

Ange Postecoglou set to get to work at Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur and Celtic fans will attest to the notion that Nottingham Forest fans will experience an exciting rollercoaster under Postecoglou’s stewardship. Still, his trophy-winning exploits at both have created an intriguing dynamic on the River Trent.

Speaking after his arrival to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, the Australian has made it clear he feels the Tricky Trees have a squad capable of competing on all fronts while he is in charge.

Intriguingly, Nottingham Forest star Jota Silva is set for Besiktas in a deal that could be worth over £17 million by next summer, offering an early boost to the coffers ahead of 2026.

After a mixed start to the campaign, the Tricky Trees will have designs on creeping up the Premier League table, and there will be plenty of positivity among supporters that they can begin to strike up a run of results.

However, Postecoglou may now have suffered a blow upon entering the dugout as one of his players could be out until the New Year with an injury concern.

Nottingham Forest see Ola Aina sustain serious injury

According to National World, Nottingham Forest star Ola Aina has been ruled out for around three months due to a hamstring injury, signifying that he may not return to the pitch until 2026.

John Percy described it as a “big early setback” for Postecoglou, and addressing his status, Postecoglou stated before his side faced Arsenal:

Ange must now unleash Nottingham Forest star who "spelt the end for Nuno"

It isn’t just Omari Hutchinson who Nuno didn’t appear to fancy at Nottingham Forest.

ByJoe Nuttall Sep 12, 2025

The Nigeria international has featured in all of Nottingham Forest’s Premier League fixtures until this point. However, it may now be over to Nicolo Savona to take over the mantle while he works his way up to full fitness.

Postecoglou had to deal with widespread injury concerns at Tottenham last term, so if anything, the Australian boss will hope this is an isolated setback.

Burnley now enter race to sign new winger for Parker as talks intensify

Burnley have “entered the fray” in the race to sign a young midfielder in the summer transfer window, according to a new update regarding the Clarets’ upcoming business.

Burnley preparing for Premier League return

After the joy of sealing promotion from the Championship back to the Premier League this season, Scott Parker will know the importance of the club bringing in top-quality players ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

In fact, the Burnley manager has gone into some depth as to how he hopes the summer window will pan out, with the club needing to be shrewd in the market:

“We’d like to be, of course. We’ll be searching, we’ll be in the market. At the same time, we’ve got an incredible squad here that has absolutely given me and this football club absolutely everything. We’ll try and be clever, we’ll try and improve where we can improve, but again, we probably won’t really have a clear idea until we actually know what the market is and where the market is for everything.”

The fact that all three promoted sides have gone straight back down to the Championship in the past two Premier League seasons highlights the gulf that now exists between the top flight and the second tier, again highlighting the need for reinforcements at Burnley.

Burnley enter race to sign 18 y/o winger

According to Africa Foot [via Sport Witness], Burnley have “entered the fray” to sign TP Mazembe winger Faveurdi Bongeli this summer.

The 18-year-old is a wanted man currently, with Crystal Palace among those named as possible suitors, and the report states that talks have intensified, albeit not stating which exact clubs are in discussions with him.

Bongeli isn’t yet a household name, considering he is such a young player and isn’t plying his trade in one of Europe’s top leagues, but that’s not to say he won’t be a strong addition for Burnley.

At just 18 years of age, the winger has already won three caps for DR Congo’s Under-20s, ahead of what could be a good international career at senior level, and he has made four appearances for the first team at his current club.

Burnley need to be focusing on both long-term signings and immediate additions in the summer, with Parker knowing that he needs some individuals who can go straight into his squad as proven Premier League footballers.

That said, it is also vital that the Clarets don’t simply focus on the present and ignore young talent, which is where Bongeli coould come into play.

Parker could sign Burnley's next Barnes in swoop for "unique" PL star

Scott Parker could unearth Burnley’s next Ashley Barnes in a move for this Premier League striker.

ByDan Emery May 24, 2025

The teenage attacker clearly wouldn’t be signed as someone who would be in the starting lineup on the opening day of next season, but he could develop into a top player over time, either enjoying time in Burnley’s youth team to begin with, or potentially even heading straight out on loan for a year.

Leeds hold talks to sign new £4m colossus who's Champions League "proven"

Leeds United have now entered talks over a summer deal for a “fantastic” player, who has “proven” himself in the Champions League, according to a report.

Leeds eyeing Meslier replacement despite promotion

Illan Meslier’s catalogue of errors ultimately didn’t cost Leeds in their quest for promotion, who sealed a return to the Premier League after reaching the 100-point mark with a 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle on the final day, but it looks as though they may still consider replacing the Frenchman.

Karl Darlow was brought in for the final seven matches of the Championship campaign, with the 34-year-old keeping four clean sheets, but given his age, Daniel Farke may be keen to bring in a younger goalkeeper as a replacement for Meslier.

Leeds United's IllanMeslier

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Sam Johnstone is one of the targets, and the Preston-born shot-stopper could be an attractive option, given his experience in the Premier League, but there has now been a suggestion the Championship title-winners could take a risk on more of an unknown quantity.

According to a report from Germany (via Leeds United News), Leeds are one of a number of clubs now in talks to sign Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz, who could now be in line to leave the German club, after arriving for around £4m less than two years ago.

The 6 foot 3 colossus has only played a sporadic role since arriving at the Allianz Arena, meaning he could move on this summer, although given that he still retains hope of becoming Bayern’s first-choice goalkeeper, a loan deal may be on the cards.

The Whites are set to face competition for the Israeli’s signature, however, with Burnley and Genoa also keen, alongside PSV Eindhoven, and the Eredivisie side are said to be in pole position.

New target: Leeds now keen on £21m striker who's been likened to Inzaghi

The Whites are looking to bring in a new centre-forward, who could help them avoid relegation from the Premier League.

ByDominic Lund May 26, 2025 "Fantastic" Peretz could be Meslier upgrade

It is no wonder Leeds are looking at bringing in a new goalkeeper this summer, as even though they may have gotten away with Meslier’s mistakes at Championship level, their Premier League status could be in doubt if the goalkeeper makes similar errors next season.

TEAMtalk’s James Marshment criticised the 25-year-old for another “high-profile clanger” against Hull City back in January, following on from a major late error which cost Farke’s side two points against Sunderland in October.

Peretz, on the other hand, has been praised by Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl, who said: “Daniel Peretz is a fantastic backup. He’s proven himself in the cup, Bundesliga, and now the Champions League. He also delivered great performances for the Israeli national team against Belgium and France.

That said, the 24-year-old has found game time hard to come by at Bayern, making just five senior appearances across the 2024-25 season, so he may need to leave for the good of his career this summer, at which point it is clear Leeds will need to replace Meslier.

Aston Villa launch mega move to sign "strong" star who will be granted exit

Looking ahead towards the summer transfer window, Aston Villa have now reportedly launched a mega move to sign a Ligue 1 midfielder who could become the perfect partner for Youri Tielemans.

Tielemans receives Team of the Year recognition

Having struggled to nail down a starting place at Villa Park in the early days under Unai Emery, Youri Tielemans was in danger of becoming a nearly man, having been touted for incredible things when he departed Belgium to join Leicester back in 2019. The season of 2024/25 has been the year of the Belgian at the heart of Villa’s midfield, however, and he is now undeniably crucial to Emery’s side.

Emery loves him: Aston Villa chasing a "special" £55m Rashford replacement

Aston Villa may have to replace Rashford this summer.

ByJoe Nuttall May 21, 2025

The 28-year-old has finally reached the potential that many tipped him to reach many moons ago, and even earned his way into Jamie Carragher’s Team of the Season to recognise that on Monday Night Football.

Emery is well aware of Tielemans’ importance these days too, having told reporters in April: “He’s a guy who can pick up balls and make the team play, but also break up play just as easily. It’s a joy to play with him—and very easy.”

Finding the perfect partner for the former Leicester man hasn’t been quite as easy, though. Amadou Onana initially got off to an impressive start, but injury setbacks remain a concern even though he is undeniably a potential world class player at his best.

Youri Tielemans

Boubacar Kamara has also faced spells on the sidelines throughout his time in the Midlands. The fact is that Tielemans has been the consistent face at the heart of Villa’s side, as they have continued to fight for a place in the Champions League. And they must hand the Belgian a partner with similar consistency.

Aston Villa launch mega Diarra move

One target who could be perfect for that role comes in Ligue 1. According to reporter Mohamed Toubache-Ter, as relayed by Get French Football News, Aston Villa have now launched a mega move to sign Habib Diarra from Strasbourg, who will allow their captain to leave if the right offer arrives this summer.

The 21-year-old, like the majority of his teammates, has enjoyed an impressive season under Liam Rosenior and could now be on the move as a result. Already a leader despite his tender age, Diarra ticks a number of crucial boxes needed to partner Tielemans at the centre of Emery’s strongest side.

Whilst the numbers show just how impressive Tielemans has been in possession this season, they also highlight that Diarra could complete the ball-carrying in Villa’s midfield. Both players, looking at their strengths, would complement each other almost perfectly to hide any clear weaknesses in their respective games.

Analyst Ben Mattinson shared similar praise for the Strasbourg captain, dubbing the Aston Villa target a “strong ball carrier” and a “very complete midfielder” earlier this season.
