Leeds United fans reminisce over Beckford and Becchio’s partnership

Leeds United will be vying for promotion from the Championship in the 2019/20 campaign, and a photo released of a former striking duo has got some fans speaking out regarding the potential impact that they could have in the current Leeds side.

Luciano Becchio and Jermaine Beckford, who spent a combined nine years at the club, scored 86 and 84 goals respectively whilst plying their trade at Elland Road.

The duo are clearly remembered fondly by some of the Whites’ fanbase, and given Leeds’ inconsistent start to the 2019/20 season, some fans have even stated that they would represent better options than the current strikers at the club.

Although the likes of Patrick Bamford and Eddie Nketiah are highly promising players and have scored a combined eight league goals so far this season, it’s clear that some Leeds fans would love to see a return to the days of Becchio and Beckford up front for the club.

Arsenal legend Wright delivers two-word solution to Nketiah crisis at Elland Road

Ian Wright believes Eddie Nketiah needs to be started after the promising striker scored a late equaliser for Leeds United at Preston North End.Life’s great mysteries: What lies at the bottom of the ocean? Are we alone in the universe? Who created the earth? Did the chicken or the egg come first? Why does Marcelo Bielsa insist on keeping Nketiah on the bench?Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

After firing blanks at Deepdale on Tuesday night, Patrick Bamford has now gone eight games without scoring a goal. In the same time, Nketiah has netted twice and contributed one assist for the Whites, as well as bagging a hat-trick for England U21s. Something doesn’t quite add up.

And while Bamford’s purpose is clear in Bielsa’s system, to run around and make a nuisance of himself in the forward positions, as he so perfectly demonstrated during the early stages of the Birmingham clash, the failure to fulfil his primary function of scoring goals will soon prove to be a detriment to the promotion-chasing side. It’s time for a change.

With Leeds scoring an average 0.87 goals per game since they trounced Stoke City 3-0, which is coincidentally the last time Bamford scored, Ian Wright has delivered a simple two-word solution to Bielsa’s selection headache…

Arsenal fans love Matteo Guendouzi’s comments on fouling Wilfried Zaha

Arsenal will have to pick themselves up fast following their 2-2 draw at home against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Despite being 2-0 up, the Gunners somehow contrived to come away from the match with just a point, with the result now putting them four points behind Chelsea in fourth spot. In the last eight league matches, the Emirates Stadium outfit have just two wins.

Arsenal fans have started to turn on Unai Emery, find out who they’d rather have in charge in the video below…

The unsavoury Granit Xhaka incident, where he directed an expletive towards the stands after he had been booed leaving the field, grabbed the headlines.

The Gunners will need to regroup before they face Liverpool in the League Cup on Wednesday.

It could have been worse for Unai Emery and co on Sunday had it not been for Matteo Guendouzi.

With Wilfried Zaha breaking with pace, the man they signed for £8m in 2018 fouled the Ivory Coast international.

The former Lorient man said of the incident: “I had to foul Zaha at the end, otherwise he is through on goal on his own. I’m the last defender but I’m far from our goal as well. I had to do it.”

The club’s supporters were clearly delighted with the comments. They took to Twitter to share their thoughts, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.

Arsenal’s treatment of Granit Xhaka will do no-one any favours

Granit Xhaka’s exit from the pitch against Crystal Palace was far from pretty.

The 78-time Switzerland international is not a popular figure at the Emirates Stadium, yet he has been appointed captain by manager Unai Emery.

That has done little to reduce the anger and frustration towards him from the supporters, as was clear on Sunday evening.

Arsenal fans have started to turn on Unai Emery, find out who they’d rather have in charge in the video below…

With 29 minutes left on the clock, the 26-year-old was hooked from the field of play, which was met by cheers and boos from the Gunners’ faithful. This got to the former Borussia Monchengladbach man, with him then deciding to wave his arms, cup his hands to his ears and then appear to shout an expletive word towards the terraces.

Is it the kind of behaviour you would expect from your captain? Absolutely not, and as Emery said after the match, Xhaka was wrong to react in such a way.

However, it can partly be understood, and the way he snapped showed that the fans themselves are part of the problem.

For the past decade or so, there has been a cauldron of tension and even vitriol amongst the north London side’s supporters. The Wenger In/Wenger Out debate went on for far too long, and it appeared to divide the fanbase.

Emery’s arrival was meant to bring people together, but old habits die hard. After channelling their frustration towards one scapegoat in particular in the past, Xhaka appears to have taken over the unwanted role despite there being plenty of reasons for the team’s lack of success.

Arsenal supporters clearly think they are right to give him such a hard time, maybe even thinking it will be a solution to their problems if they can hound him out of the team. But what good does it do to continually berate the captain?

The players voted for him to be given the armband, and spend their working lives with him. Who are they going to side with? The question answers itself. This comportment from the stands will only be a detriment to the overall morale of their side.

Airing frustration is understandable, but booing your captain off the pitch does no-one any favours.

As the hatred towards him increases, we appear to be bordering on Wenger territory, only even worse. At least the Frenchman had a group who still supported him.

If Arsenal are to go anywhere this season, they need all hands on deck, including from the stands. Publicly condemning one of your own, however unpopular, will get them nowhere.

Spurs players’ agents want a pay increase amid documentary filming

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

The agents of Tottenham Hotspur players are concerned that their clients should be paid more because of their participation in an upcoming Amazon documentary, per The Daily Mail.

What’s the word?

The club have signed up to the “All or Nothing” series, with cameras following their 2019/20 season.

Indeed, the documentary crew were reportedly in the Spurs dressing room following their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have struggled through the start of the 2019/20 campaign, winning just three league games, while they were also beaten 7-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League and knocked out of the Carabao Cup by lower-league Colchester United.

And agents of Spurs players, per the report, believe that their clients should receive extra money for partaking in interviews and on-camera activities.

A PR disaster

When Manchester City signed up for All or Nothing, they knew that they would be chasing the Premier League title throughout the 2018/19 campaign and, lo and behold, they won it.

Spurs, at this point, are treading water and sit 11th in the Premier League, with their only genuine hope of silverware coming in the FA Cup.

Now, certainly, they could win that; they could also repeat last season’s miracle and reach the Champions League final but that appears a 100/1 shot right now.

So what was the point of saying yes?

Amazon are surely paying for their access to the club and that money could well boost the coffers but all it has led to is stories like this.

Rightly so, too; as they are attempting to get back to winning ways and right the wrongs of the start of the season, cameras are poking around in dressing rooms and at the training ground.

This season has been an unmitigated disaster already and if this form continues, and Spurs fail to finish in the top four, one feels that the documentary could well be attributed a portion of the blame.

One thing is for sure: Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham fans will love that final product if Spurs’ form continues.

Liverpool won’t be caught if they beat Man City, says Paul Merson

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Paul Merson has said in his Sky Sports column that he doesn’t think Manchester City will be able to catch Liverpool if the Reds win at Anfield on Sunday.

What did he say?

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently lead the table by six points, with the Citizens second. A victory for the Merseyside club when the two meet at the weekend would mean that the home team would be nine clear after 12 games.

Watch the moment Adam Lallana broke United hearts at Old Trafford in the video below…

Should that happen, the 51-year-old former Arsenal midfielder thinks it will be too much for Pep Guardiola and co to claw back.

He explained: “Liverpool and Manchester City were both on the floor against Aston Villa and Southampton but yet again they found the answer. Both clubs are relentless in their pursuit of the title but I don’t see a way back for City if Liverpool win on Super Sunday.

“Liverpool will move nine points clear with a win at Anfield and, as we saw at Villa Park, they simply don’t know how to lose, so I just don’t where they would lose three matches to let City back in.”

City the masters of the comeback

On paper, it would appear to be a huge task for City to pull back nine points on their rivals. However, history tells us that the champions excel in such a position.

Watch Liverpool Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Last season, they were seven points behind the Reds with just 18 games left when the two met at the Etihad Stadium on January 3rd. City would prevail 2-1 in that match, but the gap would go out to five again before Vincent Kompany went on to lift the title come the season end in May.

In the 2011/12 season, they pulled off an even better comeback. With just six games remaining, they trailed Manchester United by a huge eight points. However, they stayed alive and took the title race to final day. Sergio Aguero scored in the final minute against QPR and the rest, as they say, is history.

Therefore, a nine-point gap with 26 matches left will not faze City in the slightest. Yes, this Liverpool side is special, as they have shown by winning 10 and drawing one of their first 11 games of the Premier League campaign, but there is still a long way to go, and we still don’t know whether the Reds will be able to hold their nerve should they have a large advantage.

The last thing they can afford to do is be as complacent and dismissive of City’s ability to turn things round as Paul Merson has been here.

As we have seen down the years, anything can happen in English football’s top tier, as these two sides know only too well.

Leeds fans wax lyrical about Mateusz Klich after fantastic stats emerge

Leeds United fans on Twitter have been praising Mateusz Klich after his fine performance against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Stats posted on social media by @LUFCDATA show just how impressive the Pole was on Sunday.

Indeed, the numbers show that he was prolific in terms of creating chances as he completed more passes in the final third than any other player on the pitch.

Fans were quick to wax lyrical about the 29-year-old after seeing these statistics, and it’s rather nice to see him being given some credit after receiving a little bit of criticism in recent weeks with calls to rest him.

This performance couldn’t have come at a better time either as the Poland international has just signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal, and he’s immediately shown why the club wanted to tie him down to a long-term contract.

Southampton fans react as Ralph Hasenhuttl targets a centre-back & a right-back

Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was reported by The Mirror (print version, November 12, page 53) that Ralph Hasenhuttl has prioritised signing a ‘top quality’ centre-back and a new right-back in the January transfer window.

Given all of the Saints’ problems right now, the backline is perhaps the best place for the former RB Leipzig boss to focus his attention on.

Southampton have conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season with 29 in 12 games, and Hasenhuttl has used a staggering ten different defensive variations in those 12 matches – the Austrian simply must find a settled backline soon.

To make matters worse, Cedric Soares – one of two Southampton right-backs – recently gave an interview revealing his intentions to leave St Mary’s at the end of the current campaign. If there wasn’t already a pressing need for a new right-back, then there most certainly is now.

Let’s take a look at how the Southampton fans on Twitter reacted to The Mirror’s report…

Man Utd star Marcus Rashford opens up on playing for the Red Devils

As quoted by the club’s official website, Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has opened up on his experiences of playing for the club.

What did he say?

The England international has been a mainstay of the United side for a number of years since making his breakthrough into the first-team back in February 2016. The 22-year-old has since made 187 senior appearances, scoring 54 goals and providing a further 29 assists across all competitions.

The forward endured a bit of slump in form earlier this campaign, going through a drought of just one goal in seven Premier League games. However, he has picked up the pace in recent weeks, and netted against Brighton last weekend.

And now, the United academy product has provided an insight into the kind of pressure he has to deal with when playing for one of the biggest sides in world football.

He said: “For me, I’ve been at United for many years and the amount of friends I’ve seen come and go is huge, and it just makes you feel, as you say, privileged that you managed to get the opportunity. I just try to maintain a level head.

“You know, whether you win or you lose, if you try to keep the same sort of feeling and a level head, it tends to help you best. So I don’t like to get too down or too high. It’s a huge feeling (scoring a goal). It’s always slightly different but you always get a tremendous rush of blood. It’s always something special. It’s hard to forget those moments.”

Peaks and troughs

It’s incredibly easy to forget Rashford still only remains 22. The forward has been around for what feels like forever, and has endured some truly great moments (his momentous debut week against FC Midtjylland and Arsenal), to some less than stellar occasions (a particularly dire performance against Southampton that saw him slammed by his own fans).

His start to the current campaign has been a pretty accurate snapshot of his time at Old Trafford. The fine start to the season with a brace against Chelsea, then the aforementioned goal-drought, and now the mini-revival. But if the £72m-rated man continues to maintain a level head as he suggests himself, then he will give himself the best possible platform to make a truly legendary career at United.

Tottenham fans react to Bruno Fernandes and Ruben Dias link

Tottenham Hotspur are embarking on a new era with Jose Mourinho at the helm.

And it will definitely be interesting to see what kind of changes does the Special One enforce now that he has officially replaced the sacked Mauricio Pochettino at the club.

According to The Independent, the Portuguese manager has his sights set on two players he would like to bring in the near future: Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes and Benfica’s Ruben Dias – both Portugal internationals.

Mourinho seems to be a fan of both players and feels they would make for quite strong reinforcements, and judging by the recent activity on social media and Twitter, many of Spurs fans seem to agree with their new boss.

Loads of them were drooling over both players, calling them sensational and unreal as well.

It seems that new boss Mourinho would make quite a lot of them happy if he was able to land the aforementioned duo.
