Forget it: Tottenham fans are against a summer swoop for Dani Ceballos

[ad_pod ]

According to El Desmarque, Tottenham Hotspur are the ‘main player’ in regard to the clubs interested in landing Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos.

The report even claims that Spurs would be willing to pay between £35m and £44m to land the Spaniard in this summer’s transfer window.

Ceballos joined Real Madrid from Real Betis in 2017.

The midfielder has made 56 appearances for the capital giants in all-competitions – contributing five goals and two assists in the process.

Ceballos was hardly used in the latter stages of the 2018-19 campaign, however, with returning head coach Zinedine Zidane seemingly not a fan of his talents.

The 22-year-old has won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, two Club World Cups and one Spanish Super Cup during his time at the Bernabeu.

However, despite having an impressive CV, a number of Tottenham fans do not want their club to move for the six-time Spain international.

A selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Newcastle United: A dream of spring

Sell up Mike Ashley: Newcastle fans are in dreamland as the club is lined up for sensational £350m takeover by Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Well, it’s happening (apparently) the Sheikhs are back with a taste for Premier League football and this time it could be Newcastle United who are set to benefit, according to The Sun.

If the rumours are true (the report also states that the new regime would want the Spaniard to stick around), what a moment this will be for the club and manager Rafael Benitez, who have long since suffered the reign of their current department store tycoon.

Since making his arrival in March 2016, the Newcastle boss has understandably grown more and more frustrated with Mike Ashley’s blatant lack of ambition and investment. It says it all that only recently have they broken their transfer record, which – by the way – was set by Michael Owen all the way back in 2005.

It’s a glorious time for all those involved, it really is. Benitez has long since waited for the moment his shackles would be lifted and it seems like that day is finally on the horizon. And best news of all, he will apparently remain in charge under the potential new owner for the foreseeable.

Indeed, contract negotiations had been stalling between Benitez and the club until the news had emerged that Ashley was willing to sell up for a sizeable £350million. Now, with the prospect of some real investment and financial clout in the transfer market, there is every chance that he will extend his tenure, so he can continue his quest in the long-term.

This will come as promising news to the Magpie faithful, we’re sure.

During what will surely be a rapid and turbulent period of transition, we’d argue that it will benefit the club to no end having a manager who appreciates the culture and history surrounding Newcastle United and the plight of its fans, as opposed to some mercenary who’s hired because of their botched history with “big” European teams.

Newcastle fans, are you happy with the idea that Benitez would stay? How likely do you think the takeover is? Let us know in the comments below…

Matchday: Tottenham Hotspur

The biggest night of them all, the biggest night of any Spurs fans’ life, the greatest achievement, should they overcome what will be an extremely talented Liverpool side. Champions League fever is well and truly here and with the most coveted trophy up for grabs, Mauricio Pochettino knows his side must bring everything they have.

Indeed, this is the greatest night Tottenham Hotspur and the club’s fans will have ever experienced. You can be sure that most of them can’t even believe that they are at this point, seeing as the last piece of silverware won was way back in 2008! It really is unknown territory for this Spurs side.

So, just how does Pochettino manage to give Jürgen Klopp yet another final defeat? Here’s a couple of decisions we feel the 47-year-old should make to his side in order to lift the biggest trophy in club football.

Harry Kane must start on the bench

He has claimed he’s fit enough to play, but we have seen this from Tottenham’s main man before haven’t we?

After getting injured against Manchester United the 25-year-old was rushed back into the side far too quickly, which in turn then led to further damage, and we now haven’t seen the Englishman, who is currently valued at £135m (by Transfermarkt), since April.

Out since April? Well isn’t that long enough? I can already hear the questions being asked. But do you really want someone who hasn’t been involved in football for three months to start against a strong Liverpool side in the Champions League final?

Start Victor Wanyama

Having come back into the side over the past few months, we have begun to see the return of the real Victor Wanyama, someone who dominates the midfield and bullies anyone off the ball.

The inclusion of Wanyama will allow Pochettino to move players like Moussa Sissoko and Christian Eriksen a little further up the pitch, something he couldn’t manage to do in their final Premier League game, the 2-2 draw against Everton.

Including Wanyama, who is valued at £22.5 million (by Transfermarkt), could be the tactical edge Spurs need to win a difficult midfield battle.

Aston Villa fans would love to add James Tavernier to Premier League squad this summer

[ad_pod ]

Rangers captain James Tavernier is a target for Aston Villa in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to The Daily Mail.

The paper reckon that the Villans are one of the clubs weighing up making a bid for the player after an impressive season in the Scottish Premiership.

Working under manager Steven Gerrard, Tavernier has proven to be a creative, attacking full-back, registering a hugely impressive 20 assists in all competitions.

Check out what the Pl>ymaker FC squad got up to at the Football Blogging Awards in the video below…

With 17 goals to his name last term also, albeit as the team’s designated penalty taker, the 27-year-old has been one of the most effective talents north of the border over the last 12 months.

Having found success in the transfer of John McGinn, who was another stand-out in Scotland, it’s clear there could be some value in raiding the country’s biggest teams in Villa’s efforts to bolster their Premier League squad.

Villa supporters certainly seem keen on the transfer, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts over the weekend…

Williams can give West Brom an attribute they’ve been missing since Barnes

[ad_pod ]

According to Wales Online, attacking midfielder Jonny Williams has been offered to West Brom with the Welshman’s contract due to expire this summer.

What’s the word?

West Brom are facing a considerable rebuild over pre-season as the club look to get themselves ready for another promotion push.

First on their list of priorities will surely be finding a new manager, but that hasn’t stopped the Baggies from potentially doing some early transfer business.

This week Express & Star claimed that Charlton manager Lee Bowyer had taken their interest and now one of his former players at The Valley could be on his way to Albion.

Williams, who spent a period of time on loan with the Addicks from Crystal Palace, has been offered to West Brom, per Wales Online.

His contract with the Eagles is set to end this month and according to the report, Derby and Norwich could also be in the running for his signature.

Fresh creative threat

When Harvey Barnes left West Brom in January after being recalled from his loan spell, there was a huge creative void left in the team.

Barnes shone in a central area, as well as out wide, scoring nine goals and claiming six assists in the process. Four of those strikes came from playing as an attacking midfielder.

Barring the Leicester man, Albion haven’t really had anyone capable of providing a creative threat from the middle of the pitch.

Chris Brunt is ageing whilst the majority of the midfielders still left at the club are more defensive minded.

As another cracking Championship season draws to a close, check out the top 5 fan chants from 2018/19 in the video below…

As a result, Williams would provide them with a dose of creativity behind the strikers that’s been missing for the best part of half a year.

His record at Charlton wasn’t particularly convincing but he showed his quality in doses and simply adding a player who can play in a more advanced role in the middle of the pitch will be a great benefit.

On a free transfer, it’s a low risk signing that West Brom should be considering.

Liverpool Transfer Roundup: Interest in Lovren and Lallana, new deal for the Ox

[ad_pod ]

As Liverpool cast their eyes to next season in the aim of building upon their recent successes, most of the business at Anfield appears to be in regards to outgoings. Today’s transfer roundup for Jurgen Klopp’s side includes interest in two senior players, as well as a new deal for a midfielder.

AC Milan after Lovren

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan are interested in Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren. The former Lyon player’s contract does not run out until 2021, but he struggled for game time last season and the Rossoneri see him a good option to bolster their defence.

Premier League sides interested in Lallana

Midfielder Adam Lallana is of interest to three Premier League sides according to Football Insider. The attacking midfielder is 31 and is no longer a guaranteed starter, but he wants to stay at Anfield and see out the final year of his contract. The three sides have not yet been named but have already made moves for the England international.

Oxlade-Chamberlain to be rewarded with contract extension

Despite spending much of the last season out injured, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will receive an extension to his current contract according to the Evening Standard. The Englishman’s current deal runs until 2022, and Liverpool would like to add another year. No deal is imminent, but rather inevitable.

Steve Gallen suggests Charlton have high expectations for Macauley Bonne

[ad_pod ]

Charlton completed their first business of the summer transfer window on Monday as they announced the signing of Macauley Bonne from Leyton Orient, with the red-hot striker having joined the Addicks for an undisclosed fee and on a three-year deal.

The jump from the fifth to the second tier shouldn’t be underestimated and there’s no guarantee that the 23-year-old will be able to replicate his recent goalscoring exploits going forward but that doesn’t mean expectations at SE7 aren’t high. Head of recruitment Steve Gallen has indicated that he may have a lot to live up to in Charlton red.

What did he say?

Well, speaking about the new addition whom he has had an eye on for two years, Gallen said:

“Macauley’s been part of the team that won the National League, and he’s scored a lot of goals and as I say he’s someone who we’ve been watching for a while. The manager and I talked about him in January as a potential replacement for Karlan (Grant) at that stage to see if we could do it. We couldn’t at that stage, but we’re now really pleased to get him.”

Gallen admits that Bonne has been on their radar ‘for a while’ so they will be undoubtedly pleased to have finally got him through the door, but can he match the output of Grant?

Bonne chance

Grant departed The Valley in January when Huddersfield came calling for his services and left Charlton with a lot to do in the second half of the season without his goals – the speedster had notched 14 already by that point.

Lionel Messis have been spotted at The Valley, Boundary Park and even in Wales in the video below…

Fortunately for the Addicks, Lyle Taylor’s form and a stellar run-in saw Lee Bowyer’s side reach Wembley, where they would go on to beat Sunderland in dramatic fashion, thus sealing their promotion to the Championship.

With Igor Vetokele released, it was clear Charlton needed a striker to line up alongside Taylor next term and, having netted 23 times for the O’s last season, Bonne could prove a shrewd signing – but can he match Grant, as Gallen and Bowyer surely hoped he might when they looked as him as a replacement for the Englishman five months ago?

Only time will tell, but it definitely won’t be easy.

Arsenal: Tempting young Hassaini across the channel would prove massive

A lot of Arsenal fans may have to temper their expectations this summer, as there are no guarantees that a lot will happen at The Emirates. We know that their defence is a priority seeing as they shipped 51 goals in the league last season, more than, Everton and Newcastle, and Paul Merson even stated back in January that the Gunners will achieve nothing without improving their defence. Also, they could do with a creative coup too, seeing as Mesut Ozil made just two assists and, ex-Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell urged Unai Emery to sell the German back in April. “If it was up to me, he’d be gone”.

With that in mind, let us turn your attention to a rumour that’s doing the rounds in France at the moment. We have a pretty good idea that you’ll never have heard of this young French wideman, but according to Paris United, via Inside Futbol, the Gunners are one of a number of clubs who are eyeing up Nancy’s 18-year-old winger, Bilel Hassaini.

As we said, you’ve probably not heard of him, but let us give you the inside track. The young Frenchman, born in March 2001 to make you feel old, is being looked at by PSG, Barcelona, Valencia, Arsenal and Crystal Palace. The reports claim he wants to stay in France, but given the success Arsenal have had with young French players, this one looks good.

The most recent player to leave France and make the jump to The Emirates was young Matteo Guendouzi, and what a player he’s turned out to be so far. His first 12 months wearing the red and white of Arsenal have gone well enough, with his 48 appearances showing maturity on the ball, averaging just under 50 passes a game with an overall success rate of 88.7% (as per WhoScored) as he dictates the play. His passing success rate in the Premier League alone was very impressive as he (87.7%) finished only behind Ozil (88.6%) in terms of Arsenal players who played 20+ games.

Indeed, the Guendouzi comparison is a good one when looking at what sort of gems lie untouched in France, but Hassaini is a very different player to the former Lorient man. For one, the Nancy ace is a winger, but that doesn’t mean he can’t endear himself to the fans just as much as Guendouzi has, especially if he can live up to the hype that’s surrounding him this summer. According to France Football, via The Mirror, the youngster could be offered a fast-track to first-team football by Crystal Palace and it’s understood Arsenal would initially look to include Hassaini in their Under-23s squad with a view to graduating into their first team plans, so he could potentially turn out to be a force in the present, as well as the future.

It’s hard to say just exactly what the youngster would bring to north London seeing as so few have seen him ply his trade first hand, but when you’ve got the likes of PSG and Barcelona vying for a player’s signature, the chances are they’re going to be worth watching, especially at the age of just 18-years-old.

Arsenal fans, would you be happy to sign Hassaini this summer? Let us know!

Aaron Ramsey in good spirits in Instagram snap ahead of Juventus move

[ad_pod ]

As of July 1, Aaron Ramsey will officially be wearing the white and black jersey of Juventus and will leave Arsenal behind.

The Welsh midfielder has spent his entire career at the Emirates, going through various loan spells at the very beginning but then, from 2011, he finally became a standard figure at the club.

But both teams have already confirmed that the 28-year-old’s contract won’t be renewed so his departure is very much imminent and set in stone. Still, that hasn’t stopped him from having a great time enjoying his holiday with his family and he took to

Ramsey very much seems at peace with everything that has transpired and despite having Arsenal forever in his heart, he will move on towards a different challenge in Italy this summer.

As for his Arsenal adventure – he played a total of 371 games, scoring 65 goals and assisting the same number while wearing the Gunners’ colours.
